Keith Haring's Iconic Digital Artworks Set for Christie's NFT Auction

Prepare for an artistic extravaganza as Christie's Auction House gears up to put five digital creations by the late and legendary Keith Haring under the auction hammer. Haring, renowned for his pop art and dedication to social justice causes in the 1980s, will have his celebrated masterpieces up for grabs in an NFT drop running from September 12 to September 20. These digital gems are expected to fetch an impressive $220,000 to $500,000 each.

'Keith Haring: Pixel Pioneer' Unveiled

Titled 'Keith Haring: Pixel Pioneer,' this online NFT auction will shine a spotlight on Haring's creative genius, a legacy that includes digital works from 1987, crafted on a Commodore Amiga computer gifted to the artist by Timothy Leary. Previously only accessible via humble floppy disks, these digital treasures will soon find a new home on the Ethereum blockchain.

A Worldwide Tour of Haring's Artistic Triumphs

Haring's iconic artworks will embark on an intriguing international journey, marking the intersection of his classic pieces with modern innovation. From September 7-8, these digital marvels will take center stage at Korea's 'The Gateway' event, followed by an appearance at Christie's in New York from September 14-19. This unique showcase is made possible through a recent collaboration with the global licensing agency Artestar and technology specialist Digital Practice.

Honoring Haring's Inclusive Philosophy

Keith Haring, who tragically passed away in 1990 due to AIDS-related health issues, held a profound belief that "art is for everybody." This philosophy continues to resonate through his iconic, bold, and repetitive figure images, as well as his unwavering commitment to making art accessible to all. In his heyday, his art graced public spaces, including the New York subway, transcending the digital realm and engaging passersby with chalked expressions. Given his groundbreaking approach to art consumption, Nicole Sales Giles, Vice President of Christie's, believes that if Haring were with us today, he would champion the medium of crypto art.

The Convergence of Tradition and Modernity

The convergence of traditional and contemporary art is becoming increasingly apparent in today's creative landscape. Recent examples, such as LACMA's foray into NFTs, underscore this evolving dynamic.

A Broad Spectrum of Collectors Await

With Keith Haring's storied history and enduring appeal, the upcoming Christie's auctions and exhibitions are poised to captivate a wide spectrum of collectors. From traditional art enthusiasts to fervent supporters of Web3, these events promise to be a celebration of Haring's artistic legacy in the digital age.
